Update As of July 3rd, 2020:
All Funds will be donated in the form of scholarships to students attending Historical Black Colleges (HBCUs).
Hello, my name is Judah Lewis. I am a senior at Howard University in Washington, DC. My major is in political science and I’ve made the dean’s list multiple times.
At Howard, I was on the mock trial and debate teams. I have also had the privilege of interning for CNN political commentator Angela Rye and was a part of Former FBI Director James Comey’s lecture series. When not in a class, I was often working with other classmates to start a Wolf-Pac chapter at Howard University. Wolf-Pac is an organization whose goal is to remove the influence of money in politics. As the president of my dormitory, I planned several events for dorm residents. I love being a Howard student, but my journey to graduation has not been easy.
In the Fall of 2017, only one semester away from achieving my goal of graduating with my political science degree with honors, I was forced to leave Howard prematurely. Quite simply, I couldn’t afford to continue my education. I returned home and spent the next few years paying off thousands of dollars in unpaid tuition through hard work in restaurants, a hotel, and an Amazon warehouse so that I could return to Howard and complete my senior year.
In January 2020, I finally returned to campus to finish my senior year. By working and saving, I paid off the outstanding tuition bill and secured a scholarship for my final semester. However, when the campus was forced to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my awarded scholarship was put on hold due to the economic uncertainty.
Despite it all, my dream of graduating from college has not faded. I just need the money to accomplish my dream. I have been offered a position with Teach For America after graduation. But I must graduate first for this job to remain a reality and continue on my path.
I’m grateful for any assistance you can provide to support my education. Any level of donation can help, even as little as $25 could help me finish college. Every dollar counts. Your contribution will go toward helping me obtain my undergraduate degree and bring me one step closer to one day becoming a lawyer.
Thank you for your support and for investing in my future!
