Greetings,
My name is Jamia Gaither, I am an undergraduate student entering my fourth year at
Howard University, with a major in Psychology and a minor in African American studies,
I currently have a GPA of 3.0. This fall I am holding an internship at MindRight Coaching
in Washington DC, where I have the opportunity to work with those in a mental health
capacity. During school breaks, I have participated in a community outreach with
Howard’s Alternative Spring Break (ASB) in Baltimore Maryland, where I effectively
assisted in helping youth with learning and behavioral challenges.
While I am attending school, I also work part-time at Office Depot in Washington DC.
When I am not working, I am volunteering at Howard University Middle School as a
student assistant. Also, from time to time, I assist at Healing Bison Initiative for Change
(HBIC) at Howard University that supports students with mental health issues. As a
result of engaging in these opportunities, I have developed a deep interest and passion
for the field of mental health and counseling.
Upon completion of my undergraduate education at Howard University, I will focus
on the areas of education, advocating for and counseling high school youth in a mental
health capacity. Nonetheless, I plan to attend graduate school for a Masters in
Psychology. My future endeavors are to implement a project healing center that
focuses on a variety of mental health solutions for all, especially for people of color.
Therefore, I need the help of donors, family, mentors, and friends to fund the
completion of my studies at Howard. At present, the total amount needed to complete
my last three semesters is approximately $13,500. Your contribution affirms my
dedication to earn my degree. By receiving your donation, I am empowered to graduate
with far less student loan debt and will allow me to focus on helping others.
