I am ShaRhonda Freeman, a senior at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff majoring in Human Development and Family Studies. My cumulative grade point average is 2.8 and my semester grade point average is a 3.4. Although, presently, my cumulative grade point is seemingly average; it is not an accurate reflection of who I am, what I know, and what I am capable of doing. My college journey began in 2002 and came to a screeching halt in 2003 when I found out I was pregnant with my now 14-year-old daughter. I have tried over the years to return to school but trying to provide for my family and it was very difficult doing so without help. I begin working for UAPB Early Head Start Childcare Partnership in 2015 and one day my supervisor called me into her office. We had a long overdue conversation that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I went home and had a conversation with my children, I wanted to know how they felt about me going to school. My children were so happy that I wanted to return to school, they promised to help me study and prepare for school. After that conversation I found myself enrolling for the next semester. Here I am two years and preparing for my final semester and I am faced with this financial barrier. I want so badly to complete this journey to show my children that the sacrifice was worth it. After graduation, I plan to continue working for the university and try to pursue a master program. I want to thank any potential donors that aid in my success. My children and I will forever be indebted to you for your generosity. Please know I am also being considered for a matching funds program. If I can reach 50% of my goal I can qualify for last mile funding!
